DESNZ is attending the conference with a focus on Heat Networks and Local Net Zero delivery through the Local Net Zero Hubs Programme.
Heat Networks -
Heat networks supply heat from centralised sources via a network of pipes carrying hot water. Currently just 3% of total heat is provided by heat networks but our analysis shows it could be as high as 20% by 2050.
To deliver this ambition we are transforming the heat network market through policies like Heat Network Zoning, standing up for consumers by introducing Ofgem as the new heat network regulator and giving them powers to intervene on unfair pricing. We are also improving and decarbonising existing heat networks through the Heat Network Efficiency Scheme and by introducing improved technical standards.
We will be building the future pipeline through investing hundreds of millions in new heat networks via the Green Heat Network Fund and collaborating with pioneering local authorities through the Advanced Zoning Programme.
Local Net Zero Hubs: Making Clean Energy happen -
The Local Net Zero Hubs Programme is funded and directed by government to attract commercial investment into the local energy projects which will help meet the government’s Clean Power 2030 ambitions.
Made up of five local partnerships, the Hubs are working with GB Energy – the new publicly-owned energy company – to support local authorities to develop a pipeline of investable energy projects.
Hub activities include:
Offering free strategic and technical support to develop investment-ready energy projects with clear financial models and brokering contact between local authorities and investors.
Working with town and parish councils, community organisations, faith groups, charities and even sports teams to generate more power where it is used and which local people benefit from.
Raising the energy efficiency of homes and public buildings – and cutting the costs of heating them.
Helping local authorities and businesses prepare for the introduction of Heat Network Zoning.
