Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is the electricity Distribution Network Operator (DNO) responsible for delivering power to 3.9 million homes and businesses across the diverse and unique geographies across central southern England and the north of Scotland.

A DNO is the company that owns and operates the network of substations, poles and cables that distributes power to homes, businesses and other projects. Each DNO is responsible for specific geographic areas and will be determined by where in the country you are located.

As the UK increases its uptake of low carbon transport and heating, communities find themselves in the driving seat to help plan the infrastructure that will facilitate Net Zero at a local level. This is why, as part of SSEN Distribution’s current five-year business plan, we have committed to supporting local authorities and communities to understand their local electricity grid and develop their plans for decarbonising and reaching Net Zero. Our dedicated team will co-create solutions with the local authorities in our licence areas by providing regular input, network analysis, and whole system thinking to their energy planning.

SSEN is part of SSE plc, a UK-listed energy company that operates throughout the UK and Ireland. SSE develops, owns and operates low carbon energy assets including onshore and offshore wind, hydro power, electricity transmission and distribution networks, alongside providing energy products and services for businesses.
